About The Artist
Hi I am Taunia Beaton, The artist behind Spirited Gems Nursery. I am a 37 year old mother of 3 that lives in Beautiful British Columbia, Canada. I've worked in various fine art mediums all my life, My Children and family have always been one of my main inspirations in all my art creations. From the year 2000 to 2003 I owned and operated my own photography studio that specialized in maternity and newborn photography. I loved the innocents and unrehearsed expressions that babies made, I considered myself blessed to be able to freeze those moments in time through the photographs I took.
I also spent many years working with polymer clay,I could express myself with the clay; combining my studies of healing properties of gemstones and similarities in birth signs to bring out original pieces of jewelry and art.
I remember getting an e-mail once with pictures of polymer clay babies and I was stunned at the detail and beauty of them. Through my research on how these babies were made I also came across reborn dolls. The life size babies give me an opportunity to combine all things I love, From the many layers of paint, the hand rooted hair to the finishing touches like clothing and jewelry. Then of course the photographs for me to keep for a lifetime.
My first reborn doll was a gift for my mother, She has suffered from MS for many years. Due to her illness we have always been on guard when she would hold her grandchildren as newborns and babies. To see the glow on her face as she cuddled her life like doll was priceless and I knew that I was hooked on this art from that day on. Nothing compares to the feeling of holding a baby and I feel that my moms little "Hannah" has helped her health in many ways.
